College Students

In order to be eligible for the college student status the student must be between the ages of 19 and 22 and attending one of Oklahoma’s accredited colleges full time.

College students may become qualified for Insure Oklahoma in one of two ways:

1. The college student is deemed a dependent of their parent(s) according to the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) program. In this situation the family’s household income must meet the income guidelines for Insure Oklahoma.

  • Under the ESI program, Insure Oklahoma will subsidize 85 percent of the child rate premium for college students covered under their insurance plan.
  • FAFSA must show Oklahoma residency for college student.

2. The college student is deemed independent of their parent according to FAFSA. In this situation only the college student’s household must meet the income guidelines for Insure Oklahoma. The independent college student can apply for the individual plan as their own household without including their parent’s income and without the employment restriction for other applicants.

  • All other individual plan guidelines and limits apply to college students enrolling as an individual

College students will be required to submit a copy of their FAFSA  with their application. The FAFSA is required as part of the application process for college students and is in addition to all other necessary documents.
